Madekwe was born into a mixed ethnic family. She has a father who is Nigerian and Swiss and her mother is English. Her family was raised on a south London community estate, and when she was fourteen, she attended The Brit School. She went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London which she graduated with an BA in acting. During her time at the academy, she appeared in several performances on stage, such as The King Henry V playing Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights portraying Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe began her acting career through the film Storm Damage. In the following years, she appeared in Teachers, Doctors Casualty and Drop Dead Gorgeous. Her debut film as a performer was the Woody Allen 2007 film Cassandra's Dream. She starred with Colin Farrell & Ewan MacGregor. In the following film, she played Elisha on a BBC Three pilot drama, in West 10 LDN. In her role, she also played Ollie in six episodes each in the series Trexx, Flipside, and Flipside. Ashley Leggat was born in Hamilton, Ontario, into an extended family of. Her four older brothers were present as well: twins Todd and Bram, Brett & Rob. Ashley's four brothers, all very active, took part in hockey in the winter months and played baseball in the summers, meaning she basically grew up in parks and arenas. Ashley did not have the ability to walk. She would dance. So when she was 2 and a 1/2 when she was a little older, she was a part of Baby Ballet. Ashley began to be a dancer following this. Ashley performed in competitive ballet, tap and jazz in the high divisions. The big dance events, such as International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 56-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance and others, have awarded her with the title "top individualist".
