
DeWitt began her stage career at the age of 13. When she was 13 she began performing on stage. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. The director advised her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. In the program, she was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship, as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While attending UCLA she worked as a secretary up to her first appearance on TV in the show's episode Baretta.Contrary to rumors that she was taught by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has claimed that they have did not meet. DeWitt is most well-known for her portrayal of Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 period of sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered after being cast in the second pilot episode of the show. Janet also appeared in an episode of the show The Ropers in 1979. DeWitt was the final actor to be featured in Three's Company's 1984 finale. She was then featured in an episode on Finder of Lost Lovers in 1984. Then she ceased acting for a long time. The actress returned to acting in a part in a production of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. [1] Later, she appeared in the TV comedy Spring Fling! A character who was based on her, voiced by another actress, was featured in the 1997 episode of Pinky and the Brain.
